Superintendent's Message

On behalf of Breaks Interstate Park, welcome.
I was fortunate. As a young boy, I had the privilege of growing up only a few miles from the park; I spent many seemingly endless days here camping, swimming, exploring, and learning. The feel of the sun on my face and the freedom of the outdoors are unforgettable memories. I have gained such an appreciation for this uniquely beautiful place, and it’s always felt like home to me.
When I became Superintendent, I quickly found that I wasn’t alone in that feeling. So I’m not surprised anymore when folks come up to me and say they feel like one of the most special things about this park is that all our visitors get the sense that in some way, they’ve come home—whether they traveled 15 miles, or 1500 miles, to get here.
I believe that part of that comes from the comfort of the mountains. Tall and steep, lush and green, they are protective of the people who spend time among them. But the feeling of home also comes from our staff, who are always friendly and quick to lend a helping hand. They make it their daily goal to ensure that every visitor has a wonderful and memorable experience. Add to that the fact that there are always things to do, no matter what your activity level is, or what it is in the outdoors you enjoy most. And even better, you get to set your own pace… choose your own path, if you will.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of people plan trips to Breaks Park—and an overwhelming number of those people keep coming back… home.
When you make plans for your next trip, set your sights on Breaks Park, the Grand Canyon of the South. You’ll be happy you did. I guarantee it.
