Award winning musician Larry Sparks and his Lonesome Rambler Band are set to perform at Breaks Interstate Park on Friday, August 15 at 7:30 pm. The show will be held at the park amphitheater. Sparks is among the most widely known and respected touring musicians in bluegrass and gospel music today.

“As part of the Crooked Road Heritage Music Trail, the Breaks is making a concerted effort to showcase our rich musical heritage. The Larry Sparks concert will represent the capstone of these efforts for this season,” said Park Superintendent Austin Bradley.

Sparks began his career in the mid-1960s as a guitarist with the Stanley Brothers and later became the lead vocalist for Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys. He went on to form his own band, The Lonesome Ramblers, in 1969, and has recorded and toured for more than four decades. He has released more than 60 albums, with such hits as John Deere Tractor, A Face in the Crowd, Tennessee 1949, Blue Virginia Blues, I Just Want To Thank You Lord, and countless others.

Sparks has performed at the Grand Ole Opry, and on the Austin City Limits, and Songs of the Mountains television shows on PBS. He has toured in the United States, Canada, and Japan.

He has been recognized as the International Bluegrass Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year, and was awarded Album of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year with his album Larry Sparks 40 featuring several artists such as Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, Ralph Stanley, Ricky Skaggs, and Tom T. Hall.

Sparks was inducted into the Bill Monroe Bluegrass Hall of Fame as well as the George D. Hays Hall of Fame. He was also been nominated for a Grammy Dove award for his Gospel album New Highway.
