Artists Collaborative Theatre Performs ‘Honky Tonk Angels’ at Breaks Park in special Dinner-Show Nov. 4
Artists Collaborative Theatre is bringing back their award-winning production of The Honky Tonk Angels to the Rhododendron Conference Center at Breaks Park on November 4 in a special dinner-show presentation. Tickets are on sale now.
The show was performed to sell-out crowds last fall at Artists Collaborative Theatre in Elkhorn City, KY, and won awards at both the Kentucky Theatre Association Festival as well as the Southeast Theatre Conference Competition including Outstanding Musical Accompaniment and Outstanding Vocal Performance.
The dinner show performance will feature all the original cast and band members from last fall’s production, and will serve as a fundraiser for the ACT Theatre, a non-profit community theatre proudly serving the east Kentucky and southwest Virginia region.
The Honky Tonk Angels tells the story of a trio of women who are fed up with their current circumstances and decide to pursue their dreams of becoming country music stars. They each catch a bus for Nashville, where they meet for the first time. They quickly become friends and decide to combine their talents as a musical trio. Romance, marital problems, independence, and a little gospel make a grand mixture of laughter, friendship, and maybe even some tears. The show also features a live, seven piece band comprised of all local musicians.
The Honky Tonk Angels features more than 30 classic country songs written by Ted Swindley, best known for writing Always ... Patsy Cline. The show features classics such as Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” as well as gospel numbers like “I’ll Fly Away” and “Will the Circle Be Unbroken?” The songs cover country music hits from Loretta Lynn and Tanya Tucker to Reba McEntire.
With their strong, melodic voices, local talents Ashley Fleming, Lauren Stewart and Sarah Vazquez portray the three women singers who are pursuing their musical dreams and looking to find their place in the world.
The much loved and highly acclaimed Bodacious Bobcat band from the ACT productions of Always…Patsy Cline and The Honky Tonk Angels will also return to the show. Band members include Donnie Little, Ralph Justice, Jim Whited, Buddy Blackburn, Kenny Bentley, Richard Parker and J.D. Fagen.
Included in the ticket price is a buffet dinner, which will be served in the Rhododendron Conference Center prior to the show. Dinner will feature Roast Beef pot roast with potatoes and carrots, Ham, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, and corn. Assorted desserts, rolls and drinks are also included.
Doors will open at 6 pm, and dinner will be served at 6:30. The show will begin after dinner has been served.
Tickets are $50 each, and may be purchased by calling Breaks Park at 276-865-4413 ext. 244. Seating is limited, and advance reservations are required. Company tables and sponsorships available.
